Etihad Faithful Left Frustrated as City Drop More Points

Published on

The Manchester City faithful were left frustrated on Wednesday evening as their team failed to secure victory for the third consecutive Premier League match, drawing 1-1 with Brighton & Hove Albion at the Etihad Stadium. The result leaves City five points behind leaders Arsenal, who have 48 points and face Liverpool in a crucial top-of-the-table clash.
Erling Haaland gave the home supporters something to cheer about four minutes before halftime, converting from the penalty spot after Jeremy Doku was fouled by Diego Gomez. The decision was confirmed by VAR, and Haaland confidently scored his 150th goal for Manchester City and his 20th in the Premier League this season, ending a three-match goal drought.
The optimism continued into the second half when Bernardo Silva struck the post after pouncing on a Brighton error, but City’s inability to convert their chances would prove costly. The match became heated when goalkeepers Gianluigi Donnarumma and Maxim De Cuyper clashed, with both receiving yellow cards.
Brighton silenced the home crowd in the 60th minute when Kaoru Mitoma equalized, receiving a pass from the flank and expertly guiding a low shot into the far corner from the edge of the box. The goal transformed the atmosphere, with Brighton growing in confidence while City struggled to respond.
The visitors dominated the closing stages and nearly completed a stunning turnaround when Mitoma’s angled shot from near the byline struck the post. In the dying minutes, Haaland had a clear opportunity to restore the lead, but Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen produced a vital save to deny him, leaving the Etihad faithful disappointed as their team’s title challenge continued to falter.
