EPC Begins Mass Producing 100 V GaN Power Stages for Motor Drives

Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) has commenced mass production of its latest 100 V integrated gallium nitride (GaN) power-stage IC family, comprising the EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111. These new ePower™ Stage ICs are specifically designed for high-performance motion-control applications, integrating high-side and low-side eGaN® FETs, gate drivers, and level-shifting circuitry into compact, thermally enhanced QFN packages. The devices are capable of supporting operations up to 100 V with current ratings of 35 A and 20 A, depending on the model, aiming to enhance power density and efficiency while simplifying system design.

The product line boasts features such as rapid fault shutdown, safe gate control during power-loss conditions, and continuous 100% duty-cycle operation. Additionally, single-input PWM options are available, catering to multi-axis motor-control applications. To complement the new ICs, EPC has introduced the EPC91128, EPC91129, EPC91130, and EPC91131 three-phase BLDC motor-drive evaluation boards. These platforms are built around the new power-stage ICs and come equipped with gate drivers, current and voltage sensing, housekeeping power supplies, and temperature monitoring and protection functions.

These innovative devices are now accessible through EPC’s global distribution network, which includes partners such as Digi-Key and Mouser. They are targeted for use in various applications, including humanoid robots, drones, industrial motor drives, medical equipment, synchronous rectification, and high-density DC-DC converters. In terms of pricing, the EPC23108 and EPC23109 are available at US$3.70 each, while the EPC23110 and EPC23111 are priced at US$2.47 each for orders of 3,000 units. The evaluation boards EPC91128 and EPC91129 are priced at US$640 each, whereas the EPC91130 and EPC91131 are available for US$630 each.

Furthermore, EPC is releasing a technical white paper available in both English and Chinese, offering comprehensive insights into the architecture, design considerations, and evaluation platforms for their new integrated GaN power-stage ICs. This addition aims to assist engineers and designers in effectively utilizing these advanced technologies in their projects.
