Trump Files $15 Billion Defamation Lawsuit Against New York Times

Published on

Donald Trump has launched a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against the New York Times, accusing the outlet of spreading false information and acting as a partisan voice for Democrats.
The lawsuit, filed in a Florida district court, cites several articles and a book authored by two of the paper’s journalists, which Trump claims contained “fabrications and distortions” about his career and personal life. His legal team argues the publications were intended to damage his reputation ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
Trump has also alleged that the paper’s endorsement of Democratic nominee Kamala Harris amounted to election interference, calling it “the single largest illegal campaign contribution ever.” He further accused the Times of engaging in a long-term campaign of defamation against him, his family, and the “America First” movement.
The filing demands damages of at least $15 billion, continuing Trump’s broader strategy of using legal action against media outlets he views as hostile. Previous cases have targeted ABC News, Paramount, and the Wall Street Journal. Some have been settled, while others remain ongoing.
