Peace Board Updates Nations on Gaza Rebuilding Initiatives

Published on

The Board of Peace is set to brief international representatives on efforts to rebuild Gaza on September 23, in an event scheduled alongside the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The meeting, focused on U.S. President Donald Trump’s reconstruction plan, will gather key stakeholders, including Board members, mediators, and global partners, to assess progress and set priorities for Gaza’s future development.

As part of the agenda, the meeting will address ongoing negotiations concerning the disarmament of Hamas and other armed factions, a critical component of the reconstruction strategy. Representatives from several United Nations agencies and the European Union are expected to participate in discussions aimed at identifying areas for cooperation and advancing the governance and reconstruction efforts in the region.

A committee of Palestinian technocrats is anticipated to showcase 71 planned projects intended for implementation within the first six months. However, the broader initiative has yet to commence due to unresolved disagreements regarding the disarmament process. The absence of a consensus on this issue remains a significant hurdle in setting a definitive start date for these projects.

Israel’s opposition to key elements of the disarmament proposal has further complicated the situation, with their cooperation deemed essential for the success of the reconstruction and governance plans. Despite these challenges, the Board of Peace continues to seek progress in aligning all parties involved in the reconstruction of Gaza.
