Obama Urges Democrats to Reject Trump’s ‘Lawlessness and Recklessness’ Ahead of State Elections

Published on

Former U.S. President Barack Obama has called on Democrats to strongly oppose what he described as the “lawlessness and recklessness” of Donald Trump’s administration, during campaign rallies in Virginia and New Jersey. Speaking to enthusiastic crowds, Obama urged voters to support Democratic gubernatorial candidates Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherrill in next week’s elections.
Addressing supporters in Norfolk, Virginia, Obama said the nation was in a “dark place” due to the Trump administration’s actions. He criticized Trump’s policies, including tariffs and the deployment of National Guard troops to U.S. cities, calling them chaotic and harmful. Obama also rebuked Republican lawmakers for failing to hold Trump accountable, accusing many institutions of “bending the knee” to political pressure.
At a separate rally in Newark, New Jersey, Obama continued his sharp critique, accusing Trump of focusing on vanity projects such as expensive renovations to the White House instead of addressing the ongoing federal shutdown. Mixing humor with frustration, he said, “It’s like every day is Halloween — all tricks and no treats.”
Obama’s return to the campaign trail has energized Democrats as polls show Spanberger leading in Virginia and Sherrill maintaining a narrow advantage in New Jersey. Both races are being closely watched as indicators of voter sentiment ahead of the next national election cycle.
